The conclusion is usually divided into three parts:
First: A brief recap of the main points of the argument, highlighting why this topic is important and the benefits to the audience.
Second: This is often referred to as ‘The call to action’. After presenting all your detailed arguments and proposals, now is the time to tell your audience what it is you what them to do with the information. Buy the product, invest in the programme, introduce new practices or whatever is the purpose of the presentation.
And Thirdly: The Closing Attention grabber – the final remark that leaves the impression with the audience. If you can relate this back to that great attention grabbing opening you used, then so much the better. This will leave a sense of satisfaction for a well constructed presentation.
While the details and reasons, the logical argument, the statistics usually take up the most of the time when preparing a presentation – it is in the opening and the conclusion that you can loose your audience. Grab their attention with your opening, and leave them a positive idea of what it is you want them to do with the information and you will have a more positive outcome from your listeners.
